Verizon plans fiberoptic link through forest

Verizon Communications has applied for a special use permit from the Forest Service to construct a fiberoptic cable link from Jackson to Gorham through Pinkham Notch.

The federal OK is required because most of the planned 23-mile route falls within the White Mountain National Forest.

The link between the utility’s switching stations in Jackson and Gorham would provide a southern New Hampshire link through North Conway for North Country customers.

The firm said the new cable would make service more reliable. – NHBR STAFF
