On Sept. 30, Visit Manchester, the nonprofit launched to promote the Queen City, held its kick-off event at the Rex Theatre, where board members, sponsors and Manchester’s Mayor Jay Ruais spoke about the many activities going on in the city, new restaurants and planned events, and the sense of optimism and unity which has spurred the effort.

Attorney Jack Middleton made his mark in New Hampshire

New Hampshire in general, and its legal profession in particular, suffered a huge loss when Jack B. Middleton died on Sept. 8. The president of McLane Middleton, he recently marked 70 years of active law practice with that firm.

By the time you read this, the September primary election will be history and the candidates for the November general election will be in place.

New Hampshire cannot be ‘controlled’

In a recent ad, a candidate for Congress claimed that “two families have controlled New Hampshire politics for the last several decades,” or something to that effect. That rather curious claim referred to the alleged dominance of New Hampshire politics by the Shaheen and Sununu families. The notion that any family has or could dominate New Hampshire politics has to be dismissed.

August 4 was a perfect New Hampshire day. Along Route 3, a tour of the wonderful New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, a peaceful and impressive oasis everyone should experience, was followed by the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase II of the Military and Veterans Campus of Easterseals New Hampshire in Franklin.
