The Timberland Company of Stratham has once again been named to Business Ethics magazine’s “100 Best Corporate Citizen” list for its corporate social responsibility efforts.
It is the company’s seventh such recognition by the magazine.
Companies on the list were ranked according to their performance based on eight stakeholder categories: shareholders; community; diversity; employees; environment; human rights; and product. Timberland was ranked sixth overall and was the only apparel and footwear company in the top 10.
The company was recognized in particular for its environmental stewardship, community involvement and encouragement of employee volunteerism.
Most recently, Timberland announced the introduction of environmentally friendly packaging and a “nutritional label” for its footwear products. The company also is introducing a line of products made of organic and all natural fibers including hemp. It also has unveiled its solar array at their California Distribution Center that will generate 60 percent of the facility’s power and reduce output of greenhouse gases by 480,000 pounds of carbon emissions. – TRACIE STONE
