Red Cross remains a critical resource

To the editor:Due to recent press reports concerning consolidation of American Red Cross operations in New Hampshire, the business community can be assured that the critical humanitarian and disaster relief services it has come to expect, and strongly support, will continue.Just as in the private sector, nonprofits are faced with becoming hyper-efficient with their resources. In these extraordinary economic times wherein personal and corporate donations are scarce, it becomes much less important as to where physical Red Cross offices are located, and much more important that disaster victims continue to receive support in a crisis (as the New Hampshire Red Cross has provided in our communities over 110 times in fire emergencies since January alone), as well as to ensure that lifesaving humanitarian services are within close reach of all those who can benefit.Similar to your company, the New Hampshire Chapter of the American Red Cross is undergoing needed organizational changes to ensure long-term sustainability, and to continue as a critical resource to New Hampshire residents. You can learn more online at www.nhredcross.org.Your continued support for the New Hampshire Red Cross is sincerely appreciated.Jim DeStefano
