Concord Hospital ranked top in performance

Concord Hospital has been named one of 100 Top Hospitals by Solucient, an Illinois.-based information products company serving the health-care industry.

Concord Hospital was among 99 other hospitals nationwide to be recognized for making the greatest progress in improving hospital-wide performance over five years (2000-2004), according to Solucient’s “100 Top Hospitals: Performance Improvement Leaders” study.

Hospitals that make the list set national benchmarks for consistent improvement in clinical outcomes, safety, hospital efficiency, financial stability and growth.

“Being recognized as a performance improvement leader is reinforcement that all of us at Concord Hospital are not only committed to quality improvement but that we have applied ourselves to achieve performance results that can be verified through statistical analysis of publicly available data,” said Michael Green, president and CEO of Concord Hospital.

The study looked at all U.S. hospitals licensed to treat Medicare patients. Nine performance measures were examined at each hospital: risk-adjusted mortality and complications; average length of stay; expenses; profitability; cash-to-debt ratio; growth in patient volume; tangible assets; and risk-adjusted patient safety index. The study used publicly available Medicare cost reports, provider analysis and review data and CMS outpatient data from 2000 through 2004. — CINDY KIBBE
