Career development info conference readied

Second Start, a private nonprofit educational organization, will be hosting a daylong conference later this month to provide education and human services professionals with the kind of career-development information they can use to help their students and clients.

The “Empowerment Works! Tools and Strategies for Career Development Practitioners” conference will run from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Second Start’s 17 Knight St. office in Concord.

“Second Start often gets phone calls from people seeking guidance in offering career development services,” said Second Start program director Sarah Bennett. “We know there are a lot of professionals in the field of career development out there that could offer really great, useful information, and we saw this as an opportunity to bring them together and fill a need.”

Writing cover letters, effective networking, managing change, job search skills, and interviewing will be among the covered topics. Motivational techniques and addressing ethical issues will also be discussed.

In addition to the varied seminars offered at the Sept. 29 conference, there will be time available for networking and CEU credits will be granted.

Enrollment is limited to 40. Visit second-start.org to register or for more information. – TRACIE STONE
