Grants given for bulletproof vests

U.S. Department of Justice officials have awarded 13 southern and central New Hampshire communities, including Nashua, more than $50,000 in grant money to go toward the purchase of bulletproof vests, according to a statement from U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg.

The money was part of $106,298 in Bulletproof Vest Partnership grants statewide to go toward purchasing the protective devices intended for use by state and local police, the statement said.

Nashua Police Department was awarded $23,836.64, the largest grant amount awarded to all of the 13 communities, according the statement.

Milford Police Department was awarded $1,320, Wilton Police Department got $747, and Amherst was awarded $550, the statement said.

Jim Loomis, Bottomline Technologies co-founder, dies at 75

James “Jim” Loomis, co-founder of Portsmouth-based Bottomline Technologies, passed away on Sept. 6 in his hometown of Dover after a period of declining health. He was 75. After its creation in 1989 with business partner Daniel McGurl, Bottomline became a worldwide leader in automated business payments and cash management.
