Business and event happenings around the state of NH

1. On Sept. 18, local NASCAR talent Blake Lothian returned to Loudon to compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. At 23, Lothian is driving the No. 22 Eastern Bank F-150 for Reaume Brothers Racing. Lothian recently appeared at Eastern Bank’s Concord branch to meet fans and sign autographs.

2. Meredith Village Savings Bank awarded Lakes Region Community Developers with a $25,000 tax credit purchase through the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority to develop Harriman Hill Phase III. This is a workforce housing project in Wolfeboro that will include 30 rental housing units, with 27 designated as affordable. Five units will be reserved for those with developmental disabilities.

3. Meredith Village Savings Bank is sponsoring the Runaway Pumpkin 10K and 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Opechee Park in Laconia. Proceeds from this community fundraising effort will benefit the WOW trail, a 10-foot-wide, paved multi-use rail trail. The event will start and finish at Smith Track, 879 N. Main St., Laconia.

4. In July, Meredith Village Savings Bank celebrated the first anniversary of its office at 2 Meeting Place Drive in Exeter. In recognition, MVSB donated $1,000 to the nonprofit Seacoast Family Promise. Seacoast Family Promise Director of Family and Community Services Ashley Miller attended the event and check presentation. Seacoast Family Promise provides families with food, housing and shelter, along with employment and financial education.

5. Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness announced the grand opening of its new volunteer headquarters. The new headquarters is a well-lit environment accessible to all volunteers and features centralized stations where they can pick up materials and instructions. The headquarters also contains a kitchenette, teaching space and dedicated office areas, which include a new volunteer manager office and staff workspaces.

6. The Southern New Hampshire Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated the ribbon-cutting for Figaro’s Martini Bar + Kitchen at 4 Cobbetts Pond Road in Windham. The event was attended by community members, Chamber representatives and local leaders. Figaro’s, created by Lauren Zorzi and her family, blends a modern martini bar with classic cuisine.

7. The Nash Casino presented $1.6 million to 10 New Hampshire nonprofit organizations July 22 from funds generated from a percentage of games of chance and historical horse racing (HHR) machine revenues in June. These nonprofits included: Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley; Pelham Fish and Game Club; NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association; Stevens Buswell American Legion Post 54; Harbor Homes II; Hudson Community Food Pantry; Harley Sanford VFW Post 4368; James E. Coffey Post 3 American Legion; Hollis-Brookline Athletic Booster Club; and Nashua Community Music School.

8. Monadnock Peer Support (MPS) announced the receipt of a $2,000 community grant from the Keene Lions Foundation and a $3,000 grant from the Keene Kiwanis Foundation. The Lions Foundation grant will help support groups, field trips, and fitness and life skills classes. The Kiwanis grant will help MPS fund their youth peer support pilot program.
