25 child-care agencies certified by state
Gov. John Lynch and the Executive Council have approved 25 child-care agencies for “License Plus” certification.
The Licensed Plus quality rating system recognizes and rewards those providers whose efforts to improve the quality of care they deliver goes beyond basic licensing requirements. The new program also helps parents identify programs that meet higher standards of quality, including credentialing of child-care workers; verification of continuing education of employees; and regular documented communication with families.
Licensed Plus, proposed by the state Department of Health and Human Services and approved by the Legislature as part of the last budget as an incentive program for child-care providers, was awarded $197,832 in funding to provide the agencies with an annual rate increase of 5 percent for children who receive child care subsidized by the state.
