Volunteerism should be part of any business plan

Two characteristics that add to the New Hampshire advantage involve a strong entrepreneurial spirit and support for volunteerism. When combined, great things happen. I am writing to share one example of how New Hampshire companies can get involved in a national cause at a local level.

Companies of every size and sector receive a constant flow of requests for donations, participation in golf tournaments, and sponsorship opportunities. CCA Global Partners has incorporated philanthropy in its culture throughout the years and I can attest to the importance of this philosophy within our staff, clientele, and communities where we work.

This year the fourth Annual Buddy Walk for Down syndrome awareness is planned for Oct. 1. The goal of the Buddy Walk is threefold: to raise awareness and acceptance of individuals with Down syndrome, to raise the funds necessary to develop innovative and affective programs and to enhance the position of the Down syndrome community.

This is a national event to kick off October as Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and there are nearly 300 walks planned throughout the country.

While this is a national effort, supporting the local walk is a direct way for your company and your employees to make a real difference. There are 900 individuals living with Down syndrome in New Hampshire. Chances are your business is connected to several of these families.

Sponsorship is only one avenue. Your company (no matter its size) can support events like the Buddy Walk by encouraging employees to participate. You could organize a company team to collect pledges and attend the event. Not only will they be helping the cause, they will be working together outside of their typical work dynamic in a positive and rewarding way.

New Hampshire survives on the success of small business. While CCA Global Partners has grown into a multinational company, we started small right here in the Granite State. Being involved in local events and causes should be part of any business plan, no matter what size.

The Buddy Walk is only one example of many ways for your company to engage in the spirit of volunteerism in New Hampshire. It is one thing to participate on an individual basis, but as a company, your collective support can truly affect change.
