N.H. community colleges offer free manufacturing course

When it comes to advanced manufacturing, the Community College System of New Hampshire is putting its courses where its mouth is.

The system, through its Advanced Manufacturing Partnerships in Education initiative, is looking to attract more students to the advanced manufacturing certificate program by offering free tuition for the first course a student takes.

The advanced manufacturing initiative brings together the state’s seven community colleges, manufacturers, state agencies and others to increase the state’s skilled workforce through targeted training and education programs.

The certificate program focuses on science, math, composition, communication, business and computer skills. Credits awarded will be transferrable among the community colleges and may later be counted toward associate degree requirements.

Classes will be offered in traditional and online formats.

“This initiative should help to level the playing field for those who are interested in entering advanced manufacturing but who feel they do not know where the entry point is,” said Will Arvelo, president of Great Bay Community College. “We hope many will take advantage of getting on this path that will lead to well-paying jobs in New Hampshire.”
