Environmental Power plans fourth RNG facility

Environmental Power Corporation announced yesterday that its Microgy subsidiary will be developing another pipeline-quality renewable natural gas, or RNG, production facility in Texas.

The Cnossen Dairy in Hereford, Texas, will be the site of Microgy’s fourth facility. Its completion, in conjunction with the Huckabay Ridge and Mission Dairy and Rio Leche projects, will increase Microgy’s estimated annual RNG production capacity to 2.6 million MMBTUs annually.

Like the other three facilities, the Cnossen Dairy project will utilize an eight-digester design to turn animal and farm waste into renewable energy.

The new facility will be capable of processing the waste of 10,000 cattle and will generate enough pipeline-grade RNG annually to heat approximately 11,000 homes, the company said.

“The planned Cnossen facility demonstrates our commitment to a strategy of deploying our modular, multi-digester design in order to increase RNG production capacity under our control,” said Richard Kessel, CEO of the Portsmouth-based Environmental Power. “Our strategy is to accumulate RNG production capacity and to work with gas marketers to develop the best strategy to market our RNG so as to maximize the value of this unique product.” – TRACIE STONE
