Cigna in N.H. receives quality award

Cigna’s New Hampshire operation is among 14 of the health insurer’s units to be honored with a quality of care award from a national quality organization.

Cigna’s commercial HMO and Point of Service plans in New Hampshire were given an “Excellent” accreditation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

“Excellent” accreditation is the highest designation given by the NCQA, and stands for three years.

Providers in 14 markets in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions were surveyed, both on- and off-site, for over 60 health-care standards as well as selected HEDIS measures of performance, on how well a health plan manages quality throughout every part of its delivery system – physicians, hospitals, affiliated providers and administrative services.

Other Cigna health plans to be given the accreditation during the latest NCQA survey include: Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Mid-Atlantic (Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia), New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee. Cigna Healthcare, a division of Cigna Corp., is headquartered in Bloomfield, Conn., with about 9.3 million members nationally, and approximately 160,000 members in New Hampshire. — CINDY KIBBE
