Upscale inn being built at historic Wolfeboro

Pickering House Inn and event center being readied for 2018 opening

Construction is underway to turn the early 1800s Daniel Pickering homestead in downtown Wolfeboro into an inn and event venue.

According to property owners Peter and Patty Cooke of Wolfeboro, when the renovation is completed in 2018, the property will be home to Pickering House Inn, an intimate, upscale inn. with an attached 40-by-60-foot barn, aptly called The Barn at Pickering House, which will feature an event space for weddings and other parties and celebrations.

Pickering House Inn and The Barn at Pickering House are being designed by Wentworth Style, the renovation design firm owned and operated by Patty Cooke. The general contractor for the project is Conneston Construction Inc. of Laconia.

When completed, the inn will feature 10 guest rooms, gathering kitchen, two living rooms, private dining/meeting room, sitting porches and a garden area. The event barn will offer a separate entrance, private bathrooms, heating/AC and wide open loft and barn space.

Located directly across from the Brewster Academy prep school, for more than two centuries Pickering House has held a prominent position at the gateway to Wolfeboro’s downtown, said Peter Cooke.

“Pickering House was on the NH Preservation Alliance’s list of seven important historical properties to save in 2015. We knew the property was about to be purchased as the site for generic commercial development and couldn’t just stand by and watch it – and the character of the downtown – be destroyed,” he said.
