Transformer fix to mean no power

NASHUA – A crummy transformer is forcing power officials to pull the plug on some of the city’s residences and businesses tonight.

About 2,200 customers in the Crown Hill and French Hill neighborhoods are expected to be affected when Public Service of New Hampshire officials cut power at about 11 tonight, company officials said.

Residences on Temple, Canal, East Pearl, and Chandler streets are just some of the areas that should be impacted the power outage, which is expected to last about 45 minutes.

According to company electrical engineer Elizabeth Bradshaw, the outage is the required to fix a transformer at a Bridge Street substation that recently tested bad.

“The plan is to take it out, hopefully, before it takes itself out,” Bradshaw said.

The work is part of a long-term project to upgrade power equipment in the city, and is the second time the company has cut power to the area as part of the job.

Bradshaw said the power outage is required to switch over to a different transformer, and although that procedure could possibly take only 15 minutes to accomplish, customers should prepare for at least 45 minutes without service.
