AMHERST – Five candidates are being interviewed this week for the superintendent of schools position.
Mike Ananis, who has overseen the Amherst, Mont Vernon and Souhegan Cooperative school districts since 2000, is leaving his post at the end of this school year.
An 18-member search committee, made up of Amherst and Mont Vernon parents, faculty and staff will interview the last of the five candidates on Wednesday.
The committee will then select finalists, who will be interviewed by the SAU 39 Board on April 21 and 22.
The new superintendent is expected to be announced by May 1, and will begin work July 1. The search committee originally expected to have a new superintendent selected by March 1, but after narrowing the finalists down to four in February, it decided it had not found the right person for the job.
The New Hampshire School Boards Association is working with the school board as consultants.
