Soft yard waste pickup to start
The Solid Waste Department will begin the special curbside collection of leaves, grass clippings and pine needles on Monday, April 12.
Soft yard waste may be put into either paper compost bags or 32-gallon barrels. Since the start of the automated collection system with its special trash carts, yellow decals are no longer required on soft yard waste barrels.
The weekly pickup of soft yard waste will take place on the same day as trash collection. Barrels and bags must be at curbside by 6:45 a.m. on the collection day, and must be separated from the trash carts by at least three feet, or placed on the other side of the driveway.
Plastic bags may not be used for soft yard waste, and leaves, grass clippings and pine needles may never be disposed of in the trash. Soft yard waste also may be brought directly to the Nashua Recycling Center at the Four Hills Landfill during normal operating hours, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays.
The Solid Waste Department, the Nashua Garden Club, and the Nashua Recycling Committee are once again collaborating to offer low-cost backyard composting bins. The bin costs $35, and the deadline for ordering is May 22. Bins will be available for pickup on Saturday, June 26.
