BROOKLINE – The Brookline and Hollis Parent Council will host Professor Elaine Holden, AOGPE in a series of presentations on reading. Dr. Holden teaches in the graduate education program at Rivier College and is a nationally recognized expert on reading.
All presentations will take place on Fridays at 7 p.m. at the Brookline Town Hall (large yellow building at 1 Main St., corner of Main & Bond, near the Brookline Village Store). These presentations are offered free to New Hampshire residents.
October 8, “Five Stages of Reading.” The child placed at the wrong stage with respect to instruction is at a high risk for reading failure.
October 15, “Teaching Older Students with Reading Problems.” Reading problems can show up at any time in a student’s academic career. Is it the student, the textbook, or something else?
November 19, “Teaching Teachers to Teach Reading.” What reading teachers need to know in order to teach reading. Learn what needs to be included in teacher training programs.
December 17, “Spelling.” The foundation for this skill is auditory, not visual! What to look for in a quality program.
