Separate crashes in Brookline injure woman, 3 juveniles
BROOKLINE – Three juveniles and an elderly Mason woman were injured in two separate crashes in town in the past two days.
The three juveniles were injured Thursday night in a two-car, head-on collision on Averill Road.
The crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. just west of the Muscatanpus Road intersection.
Police would not provide the names of the juveniles due to their age, but said all three were transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Emergency crews responded to the scene after receiving reports of the crash from area residents, Fire Chief Curt Jensen said.
Firefighters found a white Jeep sport utility vehicle and a burgundy Toyota truck, both with severe front-end damage, sitting on each side of the road. The cab of the Toyota was buckled by the impact of the crash, and the front of the Jeep was badly mangled as well.
The Toyota was carrying two people and the Jeep one person at the time of the crash, Jensen said.
Airbags in both cars deployed, and all three of the injured people were conscious when emergency crews arrived, Jensen said.
Fire crews worked for about 20 minutes with extrication equipment to remove the driver of the Jeep, he said.
The driver of the Toyota was also trapped, and fire crews were able to pop the jammed door on the truck to remove him, Jensen said.
By 11:30 p.m., all three victims had been transported from the scene and fire crews were busy cleaning up the crash. Mason police also responded to the crash and assisted the Brookline police in their investigation.
Brookline police officials later reported that speed and alcohol were definite factors in the crash.
On Friday afternoon, fire crews were again busy extricating the elderly driver of another vehicle that crashed into the woods off Route 13.
Florence Roberts, 78, of Mason, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital with unknown injuries after she was removed from the car, police officials said.
Hospital officials declined to release Roberts’ condition due to federal patient privacy laws.
The crash happened at about 2:20 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Routes 13 and 130. Police said Roberts’ car was traveling on Route 13 when it left the road and crashed into the woods behind Calvin’s Corner.
No further information on that crash was available.
