Hampton’s new fire stations, National Guard project, Epsom town hall … and more
Hampton fire-rescue personnel have moved into two fire stations recently completed by Eckman Construction, Bedford. The station on Winnacunnet Road is now home to the dispatch center and administration staff, and a new, 11,000-square-foot station serves the beach area. Work on both stations began last December. Both stations were designed by Cowan Goudreau Architects of Concord.
The New Hampshire Army National Guard barracks in Center Strafford will undergo a series of renovations over the fall and winter, with work expected to be completed next spring. Gilford-based Meridian Construction, selected by the state to handle the general contracting responsibilities for the project, will renovate the bathrooms, laundry room, boiler rooms and sleeping quarters of two separate structures in the facility.
The design/build team of Barker Architects Inc. and Severn Construction Company LLC has been hired by the town of Epsom to design and build a new town hall, plans for which will be brought to the voters in March 2014. The project will include renovations to the lower level of the historic meeting house, which was moved to the current site through LCHIP grants and volunteer labor. The upper level will remain a meeting space and be used for public meetings. Historic elements of the building such as the stained glass windows will be restored.
Tim Arel of North Point Management LLC was recently awarded the Professional Condominium Association Manager designation by the Community Association Institute. The PCAM designation is the highest professional recognition available nationwide to managers who specialize in community association management. North Point specializes in condominium management, with its corporate office in Amherst, N.H. and offices in Andover and Stoughton, Mass.
North Branch Construction Inc. of Concord has begun construction on the future home of Interventional Spine Medicine in Plaistow. The project involves the renovation of a 3,300-square-foot home built in 1920. Plans include a 1,400-square-foot addition to the back of the house and all new HVAC and electrical systems as well as a new elevator. The project is expected to be completed in June 2014, with design by Dennis Mires The Architects of Manchester.
Lakes Region housing advocate Edith DesMarais of Wolfeboro recently received the Dorothy Richardson Resident Leadership Award from NeighborWorks America and a President’s Volunteer Service Award from the White House. The Richardson Award recognizes six leaders from around the country for their contributions to their communities. She works with the Eastern Lakes Region Housing Coalition of Wolfeboro. DesMarais also received the President's Volunteer Service Award, created to thank and honor Americans who inspire others to engage in volunteer service. Linda Harvey, executive director of Laconia Area Community Land Trust, nominated DesMarais for the NeighborWorks award.
New Hampshire Housing recently approved a $150,000, three-year grant to support matched savings accounts for low-income families who want to purchase homes or make significant home repairs. Under the Individual Development Account program, which is operated by the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund, provides a $3 to $1 match for savings accounts of up to $2,000 for homeownership, education, transportation and home repair. New Hampshire Housing’s support targets homeownership and home repair, and it supplements additional funding from other sources for the program.
