ProPhotonix supplies robotic guidance application
Salem-based manufacturer has delivered more than 100,000 custom laser diode modules

ProPhotonix Limited, a Salem-based high technology designer and manufacturer of LED illumination systems and laser diode modules for large original equipment manufacturers and medical equipment companies, has delivered more than 100,000 custom laser diode modules for obstacle detection in a robotic guidance application.
Robotic guidance applications require laser modules to employ autonomous mobile robots with vision systems to direct and redirect the robot. Custom laser modules must be both compact and robust with long lifetimes. With 15 years of experience in the industry, ProPhotonix was able to meet a number of demanding requirements of the laser beam to ensure successful obstacle detection, according to the company's press release. Optical systems and laser module parts were designed and manufactured in house to ensure that tight tolerances were reliable and consistently achieved.
"This is an excellent example of how ProPhotonix works with OEMs to understand the key requirements for their application and then utilizes its strengths and experience to design a cost effective custom solution to consistently deliver on those requirements," said Jeremy Lane, managing director of ProPhotonix Limited UK — ProPhotonix has offices and subsidiaries in Ireland and the U.K. "The volume of sales in this instance is a good indicator of the suitability and reliability of the laser module."
In addition, the Company distributes premium diodes for Ushio, Osram, QSI, Panasonic and Sony. The company serves a wide range of markets including the machine vision, industrial inspection, security and medical markets.
