Nashua named healthy community

Nashua was named one of the healthiest communities in America by Men’s Journal magazine.

The June issue of the monthly magazine, on newsstands Tuesday, names the 50 best places to live in America, rating communities in eight different categories.

Nashua was named one of the five healthiest towns in the country, along with Portland, Maine; Austin, Texas; Boulder, Colo.; and Denver.

Manchester was named one of the 10 best small cities in the country.

A separate set of rankings issued Tuesday by the National Policy Research Council placed New Hampshire ninth overall among the 50 states based on a study that considered 11 different categories.

New Hampshire placed in the top 10 for economic dynamism, health and welfare, environmental indicators, quality of life, public safety and state government.

The state ranked third in public safety, third for quality of life and second in health and welfare, but its infrastructure costs ranked most expensive in the nation and it scored 48th for educational measures.

Those rankings were compiled by “America’s Best Cities & States: The Annual Gold Guide to Leading Rankings.”
