Nashua Community College unveils Advanced Manufacturing upgrade

Program aimed at meeting demand for precision manufacturing workers

Nashua Community College has begun offering a newly designed Advanced Manufacturing program.

The college said the program aims to satisfy the southern New Hampshire region’s demand for highly trained and knowledgeable precision manufacturing workers.

The college was awarded a Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant from the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration.

The enhanced program coincides with the expansion of the college’s state-of-the-art machine lab, which is set to open on Sept. 8.

The lab is used to train students enrolled in certificate and associate degree programs as well as employees of area companies, such as BAE Systems Inc. and Rapid Machining, both of Nashua, and GE Aviation in Hooksett.

“Industry partners have been key to the development of the program,” said the college’s president, Lucille Jordan. “Through this dynamic partnership, we have charted a course that meets the workforce needs of today’s highly competitive manufacturing market.”

The college also is seeking to build a 2,976-square-foot addition to its 505 Amherst St. campus that would accommodate its and enable it to keep the lab open evenings and weekends, Jordan told the Nashua Telegraph.
