Yes folks, J. Edward Kerns, the caped crusading former state rep who lived one place and represented another, has filed once again to run for the job he was forced to give up last session in the wake of an embarrassing House ethics investigation.
While there may have been a few groans heard in the Bedford precincts Kerns hopes once again to represent, not so at the international headquarters of Flotsam & Jetsam.
In his so-far short career of less than a full term, the 24-year-old Kerns managed to help the folks at F&J meet worrisome copy requirements and deadlines simply by flexing his unparalleled flair for the grandiose. That includes his e-mail address – nhcongressman@aol.com — televised appearances in his cape, and his troubling, but frequently amusing, run-in with Dover School District officials over the respect and deference one should pay to $100-a-year members of the General Court.
That is not to say that Kerns doesn’t have finely honed political instincts. In what can only be seen as a blend of Bush I, Bush II and Abbie Hoffman, Kerns has scheduled a “Sky Dive for State Rep” event, at which he is inviting voters and the press to follow him out of a plane.
For the throngs who are likely interested, the event’s planned for Aug. 20. Just let the budding congressman know you’re coming. And we’ll leave a light on for you.
