Dyn acquires second firm in two weeks

Manchester-based Dyn Inc. — which ranked on the Inc. 5000 as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the country last year — is continuing its growth with the acquisition of yet another company, its second acquisition in two weeks and fifth in the last three years.

The company announced Thursday that it paid $4 million to acquire TZO of Pepperell, Mass., which, like Dyn, is a provider of managed DNS services to both consumer and enterprise customers.

All of TZO's full-time employees were offered the option to transition 27 miles north to Dyn's headquarters in the Manchester Millyard, an offer that about 10 employees — "the vast majority" of the company's workforce — will be taking up, said Adam Coughlin, Dyn's media coordinator.

Two weeks ago, the infrastructure-as-a-service company acquired the ecommerce and search engine optimization/marketing arm of Manchester-based Incutio LTD, a move that allowed it to beef up its online advertising efforts.

The TZO purchase is the fifth acquisition that Dyn has made since 2010, when it acquired EveryDNS and EditDNS in separate transactions. In 2011, it made its biggest acquisition, with the purchase of SendLabs, which allowed it to begin offering enterprise email delivery.

Kyle York, Dyn's chief revenue officer, said there are a lot of similarities between TZO and where Dyn was in 2008."They have a similar approach to customers and like us, they provide both DNS and email delivery. TZO is on the cusp of great scaling and we think being part of Dyn will enable that to happen.
