Broken gas line halts traffic

MILFORD – Traffic was tied up for about an hour in east Milford on Monday morning when a construction crew broke a natural gas line running under Nashua Street.

The break occurred slightly after 10 a.m. as construction crews were working on an elderly-housing complex being built around the Stone House, across from Edgewood Plaza shopping center.

The Milford Fire Department arrived and hooked up a dispersing line to the broken gas line, to prevent the explosive vapor from building up in one area. Keyspan Energy was called in, and the line was repaired within an hour.

Some traffic was rerouted, but the lack of an easy detour route around the portion of Nashua Street, which is also Route 101A, made for long backups.
