BAE Systems defense system deployed on U-2s

BAE Systems’ Nashua-based Electronics and Integrated Solutions division announced Thursday the deployment of an advanced defensive system on U.S. Air Force U-2S reconnaissance aircraft.

The AN/ALQ-221 system is a state-of-the-art integrated radar warning receiver and electronic countermeasures system that provides U-2 pilots with protection against current and future complex threats.

The U-2 often flies at altitudes of 70,000 feet or more and provides U.S. and allied forces with surveillance and reconnaissance information.

The AN/ALQ-221 was developed at BAE Systems’ Nashua facility. The last systems are scheduled to be delivered by the end of the month. — NHBR STAFF REPORT
