Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield

Standing behind the philosophy that “health care is a local activity,” Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is right at home in New Hampshire. Combining national experience with a small-town frame of mind, Anthem focuses on the satisfaction of its members, as well as the health benefits it provides to them.

It’s easy to see what sets Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield apart from its competition. Named by Business NH Magazine and Businesses for Social Responsibility as a “Best Place to Work in New Hampshire” in 2004, the company’s mission, to “improve the health of the people we serve,” defines its commitment to its customers.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire is a subsidiary of the nation’s largest publicly traded health benefits company that serves 28 million members in 13 states, including Connecticut and Maine. It strives continually to improve the affordability and quality of health care, as well as the state of public health.

With such dedication to the individual, it comes as no surprise that Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is also deeply involved in its local communities. In New Hampshire, Anthem was recently honored with Heritage United Way’s Cornerstone Award for raising more than $100,000 through associate pledges and a 50 percent corporate match. In addition to such generosity, Anthem has also provided over a quarter-million dollars for an array of local organizations, including March of Dimes, American Cancer Society and the Granite State Senior Games.

Paired with this commitment to being a good corporate citizen is Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s support of Leadership New Hampshire. Anthem is a founding sponsor of this program, which seeks to promote civic awareness and education about the Granite State among emerging leaders. In fact, Lisa M. Guertin, president of Anthem’s New Hampshire Market, is a graduate of the program’s class of 2004.

Guertin has been with Anthem for 14 years. Before taking on her role as president, Guertin served as the executive director of Anthem’s New Hampshire Operations. Her current responsibilities include leading the company’s New Hampshire plan, as well as securing “affordable, accessible, quality health care products for the New Hampshire market.”

Like her employer, Guertin is active in her community, involved with organizations like Junior Achievement, Exchange City Program and Heritage United Way.
