Annual Nissitissit River fall hike
PEPPERELL, Mass. – The Nissitissit River Land Trust annual fall hike will be held on Saturday, October 16. The hike is being co-sponsored with the Nashoba Conservation Trust and the plan is to hike the length of the Jeff Smith Trail. The format of the hike is somewhat different this year because of the length of the entire trail and the difficulty of the first half of the trail.
The hike will start at the trailhead on Jewett Street in Pepperell, Mass., at 8:30 a.m. and proceed north for the next four miles covering the most difficult portion of the trail.
At the Nashoba Conservation Trust sign, just past Gulf Brook on Lawrence Street in Pepperell, we will join at 11 a.m. for those hikers wishing to hike only the last half of the trail. From that point we will proceed to the end of the trail at the parking area for Beaver Brook Association’s Wildlife Pond on route 130 in Hollis.
Bring your lunch and enjoy a pleasant hike through this unique portion of the Nissitissit River watershed.
The hike, in places, covers some rough and steep terrain, so appropriate footwear should be worn.
