HUD awards Manchester $3.7 million for lead paint remediation

Funding will be used in 180 housing units

The city of Manchester has been awarded $3.7 million in federal funding to reduce and remediate lead paint hazard in housing.

According to U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter, who announced the award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the funding will allow the city to perform healthy home assessments and address lead hazards in 180 units housing low- and very low-income families with children.

“The presence of lead-based paint continues to pose a very serious health threat, particularly to children, and we need to make sure resources are provided to protect families,” said Shaheen, who led a letter advocating for the funding as a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
