Pan Am will keep flying, despite published reports it’s planning to close its doors. The Associated Press reported on Sept. 17 that Pan Am, the only air carrier operating out of Pease International Tradeport, had told U.S. District Court Magistrate James R. Muirhead the airline plans to close up shop on Oct. 31. Those plans may be on hold after U.S. District Court Judge Joseph DiClerico Jr. issued an order that the unionized Pan Am airline should restore pay rates and working conditions of its pilots and flight crews. DiClerico also said Pan Am should refrain from using its nonunion subsidiary, Boston-Maine Airways, to conduct Pan Am flight operations.
