ALBANY INTERNATIONAL’S TEXTILE RECYCLING PROJECT

Albany International Corp. (NYSE: AIN) reported progress in its collaborative recycling project with Swedish biotechnology company Cyclezyme AB, which is developing enzyme-based solutions for recycling advanced industrial textiles.

The project focuses on creating enzymatic recycling processes for technical textiles made from polyester and polyamide materials, which currently have limited recycling options. The goal is to enable circular material flows by breaking down used textiles into their chemical building blocks for reuse in new products.

Cyclezyme said it has successfully depolymerized selected material samples and improved degradation efficiency through ongoing optimization efforts. The company has also developed several enzymes capable of degrading nylon and polyamide-based materials, expanding the potential applications of its recycling platform.

The technology could address sustainability challenges across industries that use technical textiles, including papermaking, construction, logistics and advanced manufacturing. Demand for recyclable industrial materials is expected to grow as customers face increasing sustainability requirements and regulatory pressures.

The companies have begun discussions on a potential next phase of the project focused on scaling the technology for industrial applications.
