Hassan IoT security bill signed into law … and more

Merchants Fleet, the Hooksett-based fleet management company, has hired Hari Nayar as director of electrification and sustainability as part of its commitment to fleet electrification. Nayar will be focused on assisting fleet clients in making a cost-effective entry into the electric vehicle market, the company said. Most recently, Nayar was vice president of engineering at XL Fleet, where he the engineering organization in developing the first plug-in-hybrid F150 pick-up truck.
President Trump has signed into law the Internet of Things Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2020, a measure introduced by U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-NH, and a bipartisan group of her colleagues. The law requires that the federal government only purchase devices that meet a minimum cybersecurity standard, which Hassan said “will go a long way to prevent hackers from stealing sensitive information that could undermine public safety, and also in pushing manufacturers to improve the safety of internet-connected devices in our homes.”

The wall-mounted systems use needlepoint bipolar ionization technology to mitigate pathogens and contaminates.
J. Michael McQuade has been elected to the board of directors of Albany International Corp. McQuade is vice president for research at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa., and serves on the U.S. Defense Department’s Defense Innovation Board.
