Customers in Nashua, parts of Hudson, Litchfield, Pelham and Merrimack were without phone service early Wednesday morning.
A Nashua switch went down around 5:50 a.m. causing the disruption in phone service, according to Verizon. An electronic malfunction in an internal power plant is being blamed for the problem.
The switch services about 50,000 telephone lines. Customers started getting phone service around 7 a.m. and 90 percent of customers had their phones back on around 9 a.m., said Jill Wurm, spokesperson. The company was working on restoring phone service to the remaining customers late Wednesday morning.
“We’re working on it as quickly as possible,” Wurm said.
