Order compost bins, waste pails
NASHUA – The Nashua Garden Club, the Division of Public Works Solid Waste Department and the Nashua Recycling Committee are organizing a spring sale of backyard compost bins and kitchen waste pails. This year, residents can also purchase cistern rain barrels. This program is coordinated through the Northeast Resource Recovery Association.
Backyard composting creates a rich soil amendment that can be added to plants and gardens or used as mulch for trees and shrubs. The bins are round and black, made of 100 percent recycled plastic, stand about 33 inches high, are 35 inches in diameter and have a capacity of 80 gallons. An instruction book comes with the bin, which costs $45.
The kitchen waste pail is an oval-shaped plastic container with a closable lid and handle, has a 2-gallon capacity and costs $10.
The new cistern rain barrel is made of 50 percent recycled plastic. It has a capacity of 55 gallons and has a mosquito mesh to keep out bugs and leaves. It can attach to an existing downspout system and has overflow capability to another cistern or to ground run-off. The barrel costs $65.
Posters containing order forms will be set up at various locations throughout Nashua, including the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall and the Solid Waste Department and Four Hills Landfill, 840 W. Hollis St. Visit nashuagardenclub.org or gonashua.com, under “Public Works,” for an order form.
Bins, pails and rain barrels can also be ordered by writing your name, address, telephone number and the number of bins, barrels or pails you would like to order and mail it along with a check to Nashua Garden Club, 8 Scotia Way, Nashua, NH 03062. Orders for all products are payable in advance. Deadline for ordering is April 3.
Pickup of all products will be Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m.-noon at the Nashua Recycling Center.
