NH dual admission program launched

Students earn an associate and bachelor’s degree

A newly launched program allows students to enroll at one of the state’s seven community colleges and be jointly admitted to pathway programs at the University of New Hampshire, Keene State College, Plymouth State University and Granite State College.

The New Hampshire Dual Admission Program is designed to provide for a single application, joint advising, access to campus events at both colleges, and a seamless transfer from a community college to one of the university system institutions.

Starting in the fall, students can enroll in one of the community colleges and also be jointly enrolled in one of the university system colleges. Advisors at both institutions will work with each student to map out a course of study.

Once the student earns an associate degree at a community college with at least a 2.5 grade point average and meets the program requirements, he or she can continue on to earn a bachelor’s degree at the institution selected.

The program “is a clear pathway that enables students to be admitted to both institutions, to earn an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree through a route that is affordable and supportive and helps to retain high school graduates in state and for employment in New Hampshire,” said Ross Gittell, chancellor of the community college system.

Gov. Maggie Hassan called the program an important step forward in ensuring all New Hampshire students have access to affordable higher education.
