New Hampshire business bankruptcies drop in May

But individual filings rise slightly

The number of New Hampshire bankruptcy filings rose slightly in May from April, but they remain essentially flat from a year earlier – another indicator that, aside from a few months over the course of that period the sharp drop in filings since the height of the recession are apparently over.

There were 170 New Hampshire individuals and businesses filed for protection in May, 11 more than last month and four fewer than May of 2016. That’s the lowest number of filings for any May since 1989, except for 2006, the year after the rush before the law changed making it harder to file.

Included in the May numbers were five business-related filings (down from eight in April last month). One was an individual who filed due to business-related debt, but four were by businesses which filed themselves:

 • Heritage Case Management LLC, Canterbury, filed May 1, Chapter 7. Assets: $121,071. Liabilities: $299,371

 • Twin State Sun LLC, New London, filed May 5. Chapter 7. Assets: Less than $50,000. Liabilities: $1 million to $10 million.

 • LTD Management Inc., previously dba Teamwork Realty, Raymond, filed May 10 Chapter 11. Assets and liabilities: $100,000 to $500,000.

 • Wilkins Mechanical Services Inc., dba One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning; Benjamin Franklin Plumbing; Mr. Sparky Electrical, Bedford, filed May 12, Chapter 7. Assets: $143,558. Liabilities: $638,622.
