New Hampshire bankruptcies edge up from a year ago

But only one business filed for bankruptcy in June

June bankruptcy filings in New Hampshire were down from the previous month, although they were up slightly from a year ago.

It seems – as we pass the year’s midpoint – that the steady decline in the number of personal bankruptcy filings since experienced since the recession is over. Indeed, year to date, there were just under 10 more filings per month, or about a 6 percent increase. That’s after a 9 percent decrease in filings 2016, which followed five years of double-digit decreases.

Some 153 individuals and businesses filed for bankruptcy protection in June, 17 fewer than last month and five more than June 2016. But, aside from last June’s 148 filings, the number of filings this June is the lowest for any June since 1989.

Only four filings were business-related, down from five in May, and three were by individuals who filed due to business-related debt.

The one business that filed for bankruptcy was Reliance Testing Inc., also known as ARCPoint Labs, Nashua, which filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on June 30. The firm reported assets of $13,626 and liabilities of $630,403.
