M&T Bank is supporting a new community center in Manchester with a hub for health care, mental health services and other needs. The $1.5 million contribution came from the M&T Charitable Foundation, the bank’s philanthropic arm, the bank said in a press release.
The Mark Stebbins Community Center, a public-private project under construction on the city’s West Side, is designed to support children and families. The 20,000-square-foot facility at the Kelly Falls apartment complex will house the M&T Bank Empowerment Resource Center, which will connect the community to essential resources.
In addition, M&T will provide laptops for the staff and community members, and offer financial education focused on budgeting, saving and digital banking.
“We are proud to be the seed investor and to support the Stebbins Family and the Mark Stebbins Community Center’s mission of building stronger families and brighter futures for children throughout New Hampshire through generosity, collaboration and gratitude,” said Tim Wade, M&T Bank’s regional president in New Hampshire, in a statement.
The community center is named for the late Mark Stebbins, the third-generation leader of PROCON, a Hooksett-based architectural and construction management firm. Stebbins died unexpectedly in 2021.
Stebbins and his wife, Sally, have long been known for their financial support for community projects. The Stebbins family has contributed both money and in-kind services for the community center, which has been organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester and Amoskeag Health will be among the nonprofits that will provide services there.
“M&T Bank was an early supporter in a very meaningful way with a pledge that truly launched our fundraising efforts, and they have continued to support the project with additional resources,” Sally Stebbins said.
“Their incredible investment allowed us to encourage other donors to support the project,” she said. “We are deeply indebted to Tim Wade and his entire team for their donation and partnership, which is turning this dream into a reality.”
