Chris Clement, director of the state Office of Economic Stimulus, has been picked by Gov. John Lynch to head the state Department of Transportation.If confirmed by the Executive Council, Clement will fill the remainder of the term of George Campbell, who earlier this year announced plans to step down as DOT commissioner by the end of summer for a job in the private sector.Campbell’s term expires in December.Lynch said he would submit Clement’s name to the council at today’s meeting in Bretton Woods.Before becoming head of the stimulus office, Clement was deputy commissioner and chief operating officer at the DOT.Clement joined the DOT in 2007 as chief engineer and director of operations.
