MASON – A meeting of the Education Committee scheduled for Saturday morning was cancelled so members of the committee could attend funeral services for resident James Rowse.
Selectman Mark Richardson said the committee will meet again Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. at the Town Hall.
The state Board of Education is scheduled to consider the town’s plan for withdrawal from the Mascenic School District at their meeting Nov. 17, he said.
“We will wait to see what they say,” he said.
In the meantime, he added, the committee is trying to get information out to townspeople. “We had information available at voting, and copies of the report are in the library.”
The town voted in March to pursue a study of the feasibility of the withdrawal and several committees were formed in town to prepare a plan. A formal committee was also named by the school district. The report was sent to the state board in September.
In October, the state board decided to send the report to the Attorney General to be sure it met all statutory requirements.
It has been 25 years or more since a member of a cooperative school district has voted to withdraw.
