DERRY – A 12-year-old boy died early Tuesday evening after he was struck by a van near the Londonderry line.
The boy, whom police would not identify, was pronounced dead at Parkland Medical Center, where he was taken by ambulance shortly after the 6:10 p.m. crash at the intersection of St. Charles and Aiken streets.
The boy died after he was struck by a Ford Econoline van driven by Richard Desisto of Derry, according to a prepared statement from Derry police.
Derry police Lt. Keith Moreau would not comment on the circumstances surrounding the crash, adding that it was under investigation.
Both Derry and Londonderry police accident-reconstruction teams are investigating, police said.
Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash, according to police.
