Some 135 New Hampshire households and businesses filed for bankruptcy in September month, 10 fewer than in August and two more than in September 2018. That brings the number of average monthly filings for the year to under 152, six more than last year, but about the same as 2017.
In September 2010, in the heart of the recession, there were 481 filings.
There were only two bankruptcies caused by business failures, compared to a dozen in August, and both filed as reorganizations, meaning they may continue their operations though the bankruptcy process.
