Hitchiner Manufacturing increases starting hourly wage

Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. has raised its starting hourly wage to $25.77, aligning entry-level pay with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Living Wage Calculator for a single adult with no children in New Hampshire.

The Milford-based company said the increase is part of a broader shift from a competitive wage model to a living wage model. Existing hourly employees also received wage increases under the new structure. Highly skilled operators in technical positions can now earn up to $54.75 per hour.

The announcement comes as Hitchiner celebrates its 80th anniversary.

“At Hitchiner, our purpose is to create opportunity for our stakeholders, and that begins with our employees,” president and secretary John H. Morison IV said in a statement. “Moving to a living wage model reflects our belief that advanced manufacturing should provide not only good jobs, but sustainable long-term career opportunities for people in our community.”

The company said in a press release that the wage increase is part of a broader effort to attract and retain workers in advanced manufacturing. In addition to pay increases, Hitchiner offers employee development programs including internal training, tuition reimbursement and career advancement opportunities.

“This is more than a wage adjustment,” Morison said. “It is an investment in our people, our community and the future of American manufacturing.”

Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. produces complex investment casting-based components and assemblies for aerospace, defense, automotive and industrial markets. The company said the updated wage structure supports its goal of becoming both a supplier of choice for customers and an employer of choice for manufacturing talent.
