2024 Business Excellence Winner: Douglas Thomson of Granite State Manufacturing

Doug Thomson is a highly experienced provider of technology-based products and systems for a wide range of military and commercial applications. He has led new product developments for the safety and security of virtually all modes of transportation, from ground vehicles to ships to spacecraft for more than 30 years. Currently, as Vice President of Granite State Manufacturing (GSM), Mr. Thomson leads sales, program management and government relations to support the manufacturing of mission critical equipment for the US Navy submarine force.

Mr. Thomson is a leader in the development of training programs for the Submarine Industrial Base workforce to meet the national imperative to increase domestic manufacturing capacity. He has worked closely with the US Navy and SENEDIA to establish a 10-week accelerated Machinist training program at Nashua Community College and a 12-week accelerated Welder training program at Manchester Community College. These programs are fully funded by the US Navy and free to the students. GSM and many other employers are already benefiting from this new supply of well-trained trades staff.
