185 New Hampshire bankruptcies filed in March

Total is a big jump from February

Some 185 New Hampshire individuals and businesses filed for bankruptcy protection in March, 55 more than in February, but March has always been a bad month when it comes to bankruptcy filings.

In March 2017, there were 210 filings.

Indeed, in the first quarter of the year, there were 7 percent fewer filings then through the first quarter last year. On the whole, 2017 was slightly higher than 2016, but before that, there had been double-digit drops since 2010, the height of the recession. Indeed in that year, there were 586 filings in March.

There were 11 business failures, compared to five in February, but two of the filings are related, and six were by households with business-related debt.

The four actual businesses that directly filed:

 • Cheshire Foreign Auto Service Inc., Marlborough, filed March 23, Chapter 11. Assets and liabilities: $100,000- $500,000.

 • SJA Concrete LLC, Salem, filed March 27, Chapter 7. Assets: $0. Liabilities: $61,824.

 • HHB3 LLC (boat repair), Plaistow (formerly Hampton), filed March 29, Chapter 7. Assets: $0. Liabilities: $90,014.

 • Adventure Fishing Charters & Rentals LLC, Plaistow (formerly Hampton), filed March 29, Chapter 7. Assets: $65,500. Liabilities: $90,014.
