13 N.H. businesses file for bankruptcy in August

It’s the lowest number filed this year

Business-related bankruptcies dropped to 13 in August, the lowest number this year, according to the federal bankruptcy court database. The previous low was reached in July.

So far this year, that brings the number of business failures to 161.

Only three of the firms filed for protection as businesses. The rest filed as individuals, but their debt was related to their business.

Generally, the total number of bankruptcies in New Hampshire (which includes non-business related filings) also continues to fall.

There were a total of 244 New Hampshire bankruptcies filed in August, 15 fewer than July, and 52 less than a year before.

It was the second lowest monthly total this year, and the lowest number of filings in August since 2006.
