Presstek unit inks 15-year deal

A subsidiary of Hudson-based Presstek has landed a 15-year European military contract.

The firm also has obtained ISO 9001:2000 certification.

Five-year-old Lasertel Inc. – based in Phoenix, Ariz. – agreed to be the primary and preferred supplier of lasers for military applications to Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems, which should mean about a $1 million a year in revenue. Selex is owned by Finmeccanica, an Italian defense contractor with 75 percent ownership, and BAE Systems.

Lasertel’s ISO certification will be also helpful in Europe, where the international standard is more a requirement than in the United States.

Presstek created Lasertel in 2000 in part to guarantee a reliable supply of high-performance, cost-effective lasers for its products in the graphics industry. But its lasers have been employed in other industries as well. – BOB SANDERS
