Palazzi wins industry ethics award
Thomas Palazzi, president of Hooksett-based The Palazzi Corporation, has been selected as the winner of the 11th annual New Hampshire Construction Industry Ethics Award.
The award, which honors the “individual, business or organization that, through its words and deeds, best demonstrates a commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in construction,” will be presented at Associated General Contractors Awards Dinner Thursday night, May 24, at Fratello’s Ristorante Italiano in Manchester.
An icon of the New England road-building industry, the 90-year-old Palazzi’s career began in 1929 when, at age 13, he joined his Frank in the construction business, assisting him in all phases of the business.
In 1935, a new company, Frank Palazzi and Sons, opened offices in Rhode Island and Connecticut, performing projects in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts such as the Merritt Parkway, Wilbur Cross Parkway and the Groton submarine base.
After the war, Palazzi rejoined his father and brother John, and in 1950 the company expanded to New Hampshire. The Palazzi Corporation was incorporated in New Hampshire in 1958 and was an early leader in the construction of the state’s superhighways, beginning with work on the F.E. Everett Turnpike. It followed with the completion of many projects along Interstate 89, Interstate 93 and Interstate 91 in New Hampshire and Vermont.
The company has been honored by the American Institute of Steel Construction, the Federal Highway Administration and the American Society of Civil Engineers for its work on road and bridge projects.
In 2004, Palazzi was selected as one of “America’s Top 100 Private Sector Transportation Design and Construction Professionals of the 20th Century” by the ARTBA Transportation Development Foundation.
The award includes a $1,000 donation to the recipient’s charity of choice, which Palazzi has designated to go to Concord Hospital.
The New Hampshire Construction Industry Ethics Award is underwritten by David W. Wood, a nationally recognized writer, publisher and marketing consultant specializing in the construction industry.
