N.H. median income tops nation

New Hampshire has the highest median income in the nation, according to statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau. According to the bureau, the median household income – calculated by averaging median incomes from 2008 and 2009 – was $65,028 in New Hampshire, the highest of any state in the country.The Granite State’s first-place ranking is followed closely by New Jersey, with a median income of $64,918, and Connecticut in third at $64,644. Pulling up the rear is Mississippi, where the median household income is $35,693 – 45 percent less than New Hampshire.New Hampshire also had the highest median income in 2005 and 2006, when it also ranked first with a median income of $67,916. — KATHLEEN CALLAHAN/NEW HAMPSHIRE BUSINESS REVIEW
